The Kindergarten Year

Kindergarten, or the third year, is the milestone year during a child's educational experience in a Montessori classroom. Each year offers purposeful progression as the child prepares for their kindergarten year. This is the time for a child to experience the Montessori classroom to the fullest.

Leadership Roles
A mixed age classroom gives the kindergartener the opportunity to be a leader. Mentoring younger students prepares the Kindergartener for life long skills: how to communicate with others, problem solving strategies and nurturing abilities.

Continuity
What's incredible about the Montessori classroom is the continuing,
long term relationship that is formed between student, families and educator. This is made possible through three year enrollment commitment.

Educational Advantage
Having the same teacher for a three-year cycle provides an educational advantage as it allows for a smooth progression throughout the years. The teacher is familiar with the academic level of their students and can easily advance with them year after year.

Advanced Academics
During this year, the child begins to have a deeper understanding of the lessons presented and begins to explore extensions to these materials.

The three year cycle is often described as building a house:

  1. The first year lays the foundation of education for the child.

  2. The second year the child is continuing to build the walls of education while experiencing new skills.

  3. The third year secures the roof as the child masters the lessons in the classroom and is ready to move toward the next educational journey.
